The premise of the program is that mastery of health skills and early adoption of healthy lifestyles by preschool children, if maintained over time, will promote good health and prevent the development of chronic disease later in adult life. The materials consist of 10 chapters that focus on specific gross motor skills. Each of the chapters have six lessons that are centered around a particular animal character. Stepping Through Middle School (TAKE 10!® Middle School)

TAKE 10!® Middle School takes students on an imaginary trek across regions of the United States while addressing important learning objectives. Using an electronic step counter (pedometer), each student monitors his/her physical activity throughout the day, including lifestyle physical activities (walking to school, walking the dog, shopping, doing chores), as well as exercises performed as part of sports and recreational activities. Each student's daily goal of 10,000 steps (equivalent to 30 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity is the minimum amount recommended for good health. The program includes academic units for a 10-week period, and the units have special relevance to mathematics, social studies, and health/nutrition objectives.
